I had two blended fragrances as contenders for the title Litha this year. This one claimed the title when a horticulturalist told me Litha was “all about the roses”. The other contender, in which Jasmine is the dominant note, took the title Summer.
The classic fragrance to blend with rose is pachouli. It’s a mix I’ve used often, but not here. One of my favourites to mix with rose is clove – the combination is reminiscent of carnations.
Rose essential oils can be very varied. The one I’m using at the moment came from a craft shop selling Turkish carpets, lamps and craft items. It’s quite heavy, so I used the crisp citrus of bergamot and the astringent properties of rosemary to balance it. Peru balsam is a rich and sweet bass note.
This fragrance can be used as an alcohol based perfume, or an oil based perfume, or a solid perfume. I’ve used it as the fragrance for #14 Hand Creme.
