The Nerdy Farm Wife Is Jan Berry’s blog. Jan is based in The Blue Ridge Mountains in the US. She has an association with The Herbal Academy, and promotes their courses as well as offering online courses of her own. I signed up for Jan’s Handmade Lotions & Creams course, which is currently offered for USD 37. I consider the course was very worthwhile, and I still refer to the course material. Jan’s website has many recipes soaps and cosmetics. It is constantly being updated with ideas for using seasonal plants. An added bonus for those outside the US is that Jan weighs her ingredients, and her recipes quote quantities in grammes.
The Herbal Academy is based in Bedford, MA, in the US. They offer many courses, and it is worth signing up for their newsletter. They sometimes send out offers of significant discounts for a limited period of time. The Herbal Academy is understandably focused on serving herbalists in the US, where there is no overarching authority that oversees the competences and ethics of herbalists. My limited experience of the Herbal Academy gives me confidence that it promotes the highest standards of competence and ethics.
Rowan McOnegal has a Hedgerow Medicine website and associated blog. Rowan is a qualified herbalist who offers courses in herbal medicine and natural perfumery. It was Rowan who taught me to make a cold cream and who introduced me to natural perfumery.
Lab Muffin is Michelle Wong’s blog. Michelle is based in Sydney, Australia. She is a self-confessed science geek (she has a PhD) and she is on a mission to educate people about the science of beauty products. Michelle aims to identify products that deliver real benefits, those that don’t, and to bust a few myths along the way.
